South Seminole Child ID Program

South Seminole Child ID Program is proudly sponsored by our Lodge and resources are provided by the Grand Lodge of Florida.

What is this program about?

The Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the State of Florida initiated the Florida Masonic Child ID Program in 1997. During the preceding eighteen (18) years, Masonic Lodges throughout the State of Florida have provided FREE of charge child identification kits to hundreds of thousands of families.

The Florida Masonic Child ID Program has exemplary volunteers. It is focused on prevention, and provides a kit that enables parents/guardians with the capability to quickly distribute digital information. It promotes education for parents and children, and is completely FREE. The program equips law enforcement with vital information to assist their efforts when searching for a missing person. It contains up-to-date quality photos, medical information, physical characteristics, and contact information. The digital fingerprints can be used to help locate a missing person in a variety of ways including licensing, registrations, certifications, employment, law enforcement, and volunteering at a church or school.

Brief History of the Masonic Child ID Program

Every day in the United States, more than 2,000 children are reported missing. While child advocacy groups have only recently begun compiling statistics, a nationwide study in 1999 determined that in that year alone more 250,000 children had been either illegally abducted by a non-custodial parent or family member, or forcefully taken by a non-family member (The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children http://www.missingkids.com/KeyFacts ). In the approximately 15 years since that study, these alarming statistics have multiplied.

The majority of rescued children are recovered within the first three hours of an illegal or forceful abduction, and the chances of a successful rescue are significantly increased if the child’s information is readily available to members of Law Enforcement, the media, and the community. As such, the South Seminole Lodge supports and promotes the Florida Masonic Child ID Program in full cooperation with the Florida Grand Lodge. We are parents, grandparents, siblings, family, and friends, and we understand that the protection of our children is of paramount importance. The Freemasons and the South Seminole Lodge are dedicated to the safety of our children and our communities, and part of our commitment is participation in the Child ID Program.

A critical aspect of the Child ID program is the child’s informational CD. The South Seminole Lodge will develop a CD that contains critical information about your child. The parent or guardian of each child is issued a CD with the child’s physical description (height, weight, hair color, eye color, and distinguishing marks such as birthmarks, scars, beauty marks, etc.). Also added to the CD will be digital photographs and fingerprint scans of your child. The information is then readily available should you ever need it. To ensure complete privacy and security, the child’s data is not retained by the South Seminole Lodge or anyone else but the holder of the CD. All child-related data is deleted on-site in front of the parent or guardian for every child in the program.  Beyond the informational CD, there are multiple ways in which the South Seminole Lodge can support and enhance community-wide child protection efforts. We can work with local law enforcement and child advocacy groups to sponsor or participate in Child ID events. Through community resources and the Masonic network, we can help provide parents, grandparents, siblings, caregivers, and children with valuable safety information, or work within the community to sponsor safety classes and seminars. If you are interested in scheduling, sponsoring, or volunteering to host or support a Child ID Program session for your school, church group or any other organization, please contact us by clicking on the coordinator’s name below and either calling the number on the following screen or by filling out the email form.
